Musical Things

Bio & Philosophy
Some of the best advice I've ever been given about teaching was:
"Get to know your students,
and do whatever works."
My name is Glen Michael Blair and I can make music all day without getting bored. I love to learn how to play new instruments, write songs, and share musical experiences with anyone who's interested.
I grew up playing the tuba in school, learned piano and organ to play in local churches, and taught myself to play guitar, bass, and drums because I've always loved pop, rock, and jazz. Figuring out how instruments work and how to make them work together is one of my all time favorite activities, and sharing that passion with others is just as cool (sometimes cooler). Ultimately, it was the tuba that became my ticket into a good music school, and it was at the Eastman School of Music where I first started learning how to play all the other winds, brass, and strings while digging into research-based music education practices.
Lessons with me vary from student to student depending on what you're looking to do/create. Everyone is different and the things that motivate us are inherently unique. Between my background in classical music, touring with jazz and funk bands, and producing dozens of songs you can hear online, I've got a wide range of skills, interests, and experiences to share with you. Whether you need help practicing for your All-State audition, or you want to dive into the creative side of music making, my main objective in every lesson is to make sure I understand my students' needs and learning styles in order to help them set AND reach their performance goals.
*New addition to this resume as of October 2023, I am now also a certified Breath Coach! Breathwork has long been part of my musical life as a tuba player, but the techniques practiced in tandem with meditation have sincerely upgraded all other parts of my life. If you're interested in Breath classes, or even curious what that might look like, please don't hesitate to reach out!
